Question

The ratio of number of boys and girls in a school of 3528 students is 5:4. How many more girls should be admitted in the school to make this ratio 1:1?

A.

312

B.

392

C.

472

D.

552

Correct option is B

Given:

Total students = 3528

Ratio of boys : girls = 5 : 4

Find how many more girls should be admitted to make the ratio 1 : 1.

Solution:

Total parts = 5 + 4 = 9

Value of one part = 35289=392\frac{3528}{9}=392

Number of boys =5 × 392 = 1960

Number of girls = 4 × 392 = 1568

To make the ratio 1:1, number of girls must equal number of boys:

Required girls = 1960

Additional girls needed = 1960-1568 = 392
