Question

The mean of the first ten even natural numbers is:

A.

10

B.

8

C.

11

D.

9

Correct option is C

Given:

We need to find the mean of the first ten even natural numbers.

Formula Used:

Mean =(Sum of all observations)  (Number of observations) \frac{\text{(Sum of all observations) }}{\text{ (Number of observations)}}

Solution:

Sum = 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 10 + 12 + 14 + 16 + 18 + 20 = 110

Mean = 11010=11\frac{110}{10} = 11

Alternate Method:

First term = 2

Last term = 20

Mean = (First term + Last term) 2\frac{\text{(First term + Last term) }} 2

Mean =(2+20)2=222=\frac{ (2 + 20) }{ 2} =\frac{ 22 } 2 = 11
