Question

The difference between the circumference and the radius of a circle is 37 cm. The area of the circle is:

A.

152 cm2\text{cm}^2

B.

154 cm2\text{cm}^2

C.

151 cm2\text{cm}^2

D.

153 cm2\text{cm}^2

Correct option is B

Given:

Difference between the circumference and the radius of a circle = 37 cm

Formula Used:
Circumference of a circle =2πr 2\pi r
Area of a circle = πr2\pi r^2

Solution:
Given:
2πr − r = 37
r (2π − 1) = 37

Using π227:\pi \approx \frac{22}{7}:

r(2×2271)=37r\left( 2\times\frac{22}{7} -1\right)= 37

×377=37\times \frac{37}7=37

r = 7 cm

Now, Area =πr2=227×72=227×49=154 cm2= \pi r^2 = \frac{22}{7} \times 7^2 = \frac{22}{7} \times 49 = 154 \, \text{cm}^2
