    Question

    The average weight of T, U and V is 42 kg. If the average weight of T and U is 40 kg and the average weight of U and V is 36 kg, then what is the weight of U?

    A.

    22 kg

    B.

    24 kg

    C.

    26 kg

    D.

    29 kg

    Correct option is C

    Given:
    Average of T, U and V = 42 kg, T and U = 40 kg, U and V = 36 kg.
    Formula Used:
    Average=Sum of all valuesNumber of valuesAverage= \frac{Sum of all values} {Number of values}
    Solution:

    Total weight of T, U, V = 42 ×\times 3 = 126

    Total weight of T and U = 40 ×\times2 = 80

     Total weight of U and V = 36 ×\times 2 = 72.

    Weight of U = [80+72] - [126] = 26 kg.
