Question

Radhika requested the cashier of a bank to get her coins in lieu of her cheque worth Rs. 1,845. Cashier gave her a packet containing Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 coins in the ratio of 3: 5:7. What is the total worth of the smallest coin received by her?

A.

Rs. 125

B.

Rs. 105

C.

Rs. 145

D.

Rs. 135

Correct option is D

Given:
Total money – Rs. 1845
Coins = Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 20
Ratio = 3: 5:7
Solution:
Let the number of Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 be 3x, 5x and 7x
The total no of coins = 3x + 5x + 7x = 15x ……….(1)
Now the amount of Rs. 5, Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 coins will be 15x, 50x and 140x respectively.
Total amount = 15x + 50x + 140x = 205x
According to the question,
205x = 1845
x = 1845205\frac{1845}{205}
x = 9
The total worth of the smallest coin received by her = 15x = 15 × 9 = 135.
