Question

On a one-way road, broken lines consisting of 2.5 m length segments separated by 2.5 m gaps are painted along the length of the road to demarcate 3 lanes, and continuous lines are painted along both the borders. What is the total length of the painted lines (in m) over a 250 m stretch of the road?

A.

500

B.

625

C.

750

D.

1000

Correct option is C

Given:-
Length of the road = 250 m
Length of each segment of broken lines = 2.5 m
Gap between segments = 2.5 m
Number of lanes = 3
Continuous lines along both borders.
Solution:-
Length of each broken line segment = 2.5 m, and the gap between them is also 2.5 m.
Each unit of broken line is 2.5 m (line) + 2.5 m (gap) = 5 m.
For 250 m of road, the number of units of broken lines =  2505=50\frac {250}{5}=50
Since there are 3 lanes,  for 2 broken lines (one for the first lane and one for the second lane).
Total length of broken lines = 50×2.5×2=250 50 \times 2.5 \times 2 = 250 m
Continuous lines are painted on both borders of the road, so we have 2 continuous lines.
Total length of continuous lines = 250×2=500250 \times 2 =500  m
Total Length of Painted Lines:
250m (broken lines) + 500m (continuous lines) = 750m
Thus, the correct answer is (C) 750
