Question

Numbers of seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a college are in the ratio 2:3:4. What will be the respective ratio if the seats for each subject are increased by 50%?

A.

1:1:1

B.

2:3:4

C.

4:3:2

D.

3:2:4

Correct option is B

Solution:
Let the seats be: Maths = 2k Physics = 3k Biology = 4k
Increase each by 50% means multiply each by 1.5:
Maths new = 2k × 1.5 = 3k Physics new = 3k × 1.5 = 4.5k Biology new = 4k × 1.5 = 6k
New ratio = 3k : 4.5k : 6k
Divide each by 1.5k:
3k / 1.5k = 2 4.5k / 1.5k = 3 6k / 1.5k = 4
So, the new ratio =  2 : 3 : 4, same as original.
Answer: (b) 2:3:4
