Question

In what ratio should sugar costing ₹74 per kg be mixed with sugar costing ₹27 per kg so that by selling the mixture at ₹45.6 per kg, there is a profit of 14%?

A.

15 : 36

B.

12 : 32

C.

17 : 36

D.

13 : 34

Correct option is D

Given:

Cost1 = ₹74/kg, Cost2 = ₹27/kg, SP of mixture = ₹45.6/kg, Profit = 14%

Formula Used:
C.P. of mixture = SP ÷ (1 + Profit%)
Alligation: (Cheaper : Dearer) = (Dearer − Mean) : (Mean − Cheaper)

Solution:
C.P. of mixture = 45.6 ÷ 1.14 = 40
Ratio (Cheaper : Dearer) = (74 − 40) : (40 − 27) = 34 : 13
So, sugar at ₹74 : sugar at ₹27 = 13 : 34.
