Question

In what ratio must a grocer mix two varieties of pulses costing ₹60 and ₹75 per kg, respectively, so as to get a mixture worth ₹65 per kg?

A.

3 : 4

B.

2 : 1

C.

2 : 3

D.

1 : 2

Correct option is B

Given:
Cost of Pulse P1 = ₹60
Cost of Pulse P2 = ₹75
Mixture Cost = ₹65.
Formula and Concept Used:
Ratio concept = x : y
Solution:
Let the ratio of mixing two varieties of pulses = x : y
So total value of P1 = 60x
Total value of P2 = 75y
Now,
As per the question,
60x + 75y = 65(x + y)
60x + 75y = 65x + 65y
60x – 65y = 65y – 75y
-5x = -10
xy=21\frac{x}{y}=\frac{2}{1}
x : y = 2 : 1
