Given :

Series → 17, 24, 32, 38, x, 74, y, …

Solution :

Find the differences:

24 − 17 = 7

32 − 24 = 8

38 − 32 = 6

Now observe a symmetric pattern in differences:

7 , 8 , 6 , 12 ,  24 , 12

So continuing the series:

38 + 12 = 50 

x = 50 

50 + 24 = 74 

74 + 12 = 86 

y = 86 

Now calculate:

2x + y = 2(50) + 86 = 100 + 86 = 186
