Question

In an examination, 50% students failed in English and 40% in Maths and 15% students failed in both subjects. If 200 students passed in both the subjects. Find the number of students appear in Exam.

A.

2000

B.

400

C.

800

D.

1000

Correct option is C

Given:
50% of students failed in English.
40% of students failed in Maths.
15% of students failed in both English and Maths.
200 students passed in both subjects.

Solution:

Let total number students 100x.

Total students = Total failed students + Total passed students

100x = 75x + 200

25x = 200

x = 8

Total students = 100x = 100×8100 \times 8  = 800

So, the number of students appear in exam is 800.

Thus, the correct answer is (c).
