Question

In an exam, Sandeep got 55 percent less marks than the passing marks. He got 223.2 marks. If the passing percentage is 62 percent, then what are the maximum marks of the exam?

A.

200

B.

600

C.

400

D.

800

Correct option is D

Given:
Sandeep got 55% less than passing marks.
Sandeep’s marks = 223.2
Passing percentage = 62%
Solution:

Let passing marks = P.
223.2 = P × (1 - 0.55)
P=223.20.45=496P = \frac{223.2 }{ 0.45} = 496
Then, Maximum Marks = P×10062\frac{P × 100}{62}
Maximum Marks = 496×10062\frac{496 × 100}{62} = 800
Thus, the maximum marks of the exam are 800.
