In a school, there were 1400 boys and 600 girls. 40% of girls and 60% of boys passed in the examination. What is the percentage of failed candidates?

A.

46%

B.

65%

C.

72%

D.

63%

Correct option is A

Given:

Total boys = 1400

Total girls = 600

Formula Used:
Failed candidates = Total students − Passed students
Percentage of failed candidates =Failed candidatesTotal candidates×100= \dfrac{\text{Failed candidates}}{\text{Total candidates}} \times 100

Solution:

Boys passed = 60% of 1400 = 0.60 × 1400 =840

Girls passed = 40% of 600 = 0.40 × 600 = 240

Total passed=840 + 240 = 1080

Failed=2000 – 1080 = 920

Failed % = 9202000×100=46%\dfrac{920}{2000} \times 100 = 46\%
