Given:

Ratio of boys and girls in the class = 5 : 7 

Solution:

Let the number of the girls in the class = 7 x

the number of the boys in the class = 5x 

According to the question,

7x - 5x = 6 

x = 3 

Then total number of the students in the class = 7x + 5x = 12x = 12×\times 3 = 36 ​
