If x – y = 5 and xy = 15, then what is the value of x3−y3\text{x}^3-\text{y}^3x3−y3?
Question

If x – y = 5 and xy = 15, then what is the value of x3y3\text{x}^3-\text{y}^3?

A.

350

B.

125

C.

-100

D.

250

Correct option is A

Given:

x - y = 5

xy = 15

Formula Used:

x3y3=(xy)(x2+xy+y2)x^3 - y^3 = (x - y)(x^2 + xy + y^2)

x2+y2=(xy)2+2xy x^2 + y^2 = (x - y)^2 + 2xy

Solution:

x2+y2=25+2×15=55x^2 + y^2 = 25 + 2 \times 15 = 55

x3y3=(xy)(x2+xy+y2)=5(55+15)=5×70=350x^3 - y^3 = (x - y)(x^2 + xy + y^2) = 5(55 + 15) = 5 \times 70 = 350
