If the selling price of 10 raincoats is equal to the cost price of 12 raincoats, find the gainpercentage.
Question

If the selling price of 10 raincoats is equal to the cost price of 12 raincoats, find the gainpercentage.

A.

12%

B.

15%

C.

20%

D.

16%

Correct option is C

Given:

The selling price (SP) of 10 raincoats is equal to the cost price (CP) of 12 raincoats.

Formula Used:

Gain percentage = GainCost Price×100 \frac{\text{Gain}}{\text{Cost Price}} \times 100

Solution:

Let the cost price of each raincoat be C and the selling price of each raincoat be S

The total cost price for 12 raincoats is 12C

The total selling price for 10 raincoats is 10S

According to the problem, the total selling price of 10 raincoats equals the total cost price of 12 raincoats:

10S = 12C

S =1210C \frac{12}{10}C = 1.2C

Gain per raincoat = S - C = 1.2C - C = 0.2C.

Gain percentage = 0.2CC×100=20%\frac{0.2C}{C} \times 100 = 20\%

The gain percentage is 20%.

Alternate Solution:

10SP = 12CP

SPCP=1210=65\frac{SP}{CP} =\frac{12}{10} =\frac65

Gain% = 655×100=20%\frac{6-5}{5}\times 100 = 20\%
