Question

A person bought a plot for ₹1,20,000. He sold 15\frac{1}{5} part of this plot at a loss of 10%. At what profit percent should he sell the remaining plot to earn a profit of 27% on the whole transaction?

A.

36.25%

B.

40.69%

C.

28.68%

D.

30.75%

Correct option is A

Given:
Total CP = ₹1,20,000
Part 1:15 \frac{1}{5} sold at 10% loss.
Part 2: Remaining 45\frac{4}{5} sold at x% profit.
Overall Target: 27% profit.
Concept Used:
Weighted Average Method.
(w1×p1)+(w2×p2)=ptotal(w_1 \times p_1) + (w_2 \times p_2) = p_{total}
Solution:
Let the profit percentage on the remaining part be x.
Equation:
(15×10)+(45×x)=27(\frac{1}{5} \times -10) + (\frac{4}{5} \times x) = 27
Multiply the entire equation by 5 to remove denominators:
1(10)+4(x)=27×510+4x=1354x=145x=1454x=36.25%1(-10) + 4(x) = 27 \times 5 \\-10 + 4x = 135 \\4x = 145 \\x = \frac{145}{4} \\x = 36.25\%
So the correct answer is (a)
