Question

If the selling price is Rs. 2,886 after allowing a discount of 26% on the marked price, then the amount of discount is:

A.

Rs. 1,625

B.

Rs. 2,190

C.

Rs. 1,014

D.

Rs. 2,000

Correct option is C

Given:

Selling price =  Rs. 2,886 after allowing a discount of 26%

Formula Used:

Total marked priceTotal selling price(1Discount%)\frac{Total \ selling \ price }{(1 - Discount \%)}

Solution:

Total marked price = 2886(126100)=3900\frac{₹2886 }{ (1 - \frac{26}{100})} = ₹3900
Discount = S.P. - M.P = 3900 - 2886 = 1014

Alternate Solution:
Let Selling Price be 100 unit
then, Marked Price = 100 - 26% of 100 = 74 unit
74 unit = 2886
1 unit = 39
100 unit = 3900
Discount = S.P. - M.P = 3900 - 2886 = 1014
