Question

If the mode of a data exceeds its mean by 12.6, then the mode exceeds the median by _____.
(Use empirical formula.)

A.

15.9

B.

17.6

C.

18.2

D.

8.4

Correct option is D

Given:

Mode exceeds the Mean by 12.6

Concept Used:

Empirical Formula: Mode = 3 × Median – 2 × Mean

Solution:

Let Mean = M

Then, Mode = M + 12.6

Using the formula:

M + 12.6 = 3 × Median – 2M

=> 3 × Median = 3M + 12.6

=> Median = M + 4.2

So, Mode – Median = (M + 12.6) – (M + 4.2) = 8.4

Mode exceeds the Median by 8.4
