Given:

Required: Sum of the first and third number.

Solution:

The numbers are in the ratio 16 : 10 : 9 : 17

So, let the four numbers be 16x, 10x, 9x, 17x

Now, 

16x + 10x + 9x + 17x = 6292

52x = 6292

x = 629252\frac{6292}{52}​ = 121

Now, the sum of the first and third number:

16x + 9x = 25x = 25×121 25 \times 121​ = 3025
