Question

Find the median of 45, 76, 32, 58, 16, 27, 64 and 35.

A.

35

B.

40

C.

45

D.

42

Correct option is B

Given:

The numbers are: 45, 76, 32, 58, 16, 27, 64, 35

Concept used:

The median is the middle value of the data when it is arranged in ascending order.

Solution:

Arrange them in ascending order:

16, 27, 32, 35, 45, 58, 64, 76

Since there are 8 numbers (even count),

the median is the average of the 4th and 5th numbers.

From the arranged list:

4th number = 35

5th number = 45

 Median =35+452=802=40\text { Median }=\frac{35+45}{2}=\frac{80}{2}=40

Thus, the correct answer is (B).
