Question

By selling an article for ₹19.5, a dealer makes a profit of 10%. By how much should he increase his selling price (in ₹,rounded off to two decimal place) so as to make a profit of 50%?

A.

10.09

B.

7.09

C.

8.09

D.

9.09

Correct option is B

Given:

Selling price (SP1) = ₹19.5

Profit percentage (P1) = 10%

Desired profit percentage (P2) = 50%

Concept Used:

Cost Price (CP) = SP11+P1100\frac{SP_1}{1 + \frac{P_1}{100}}

New Selling Price (SP2) = CP×(1+P2100)\times \left( 1 + \frac{P_2}{100} \right)

Increase in Selling Price = SP2 - SP1

Solution:

CP =19.51+10100\frac{19.5}{1 + \frac{10}{100}}

CP = 19.51.1\frac{19.5 }{ 1.1}

CP = 17.7272...

SP2 = CP×(1+50100)\times \left( 1 + \frac{50}{100} \right)

SP2 = 17.7272... ×1.5\times 1.5

SP2 = 26.5909...

Increase = SP2 - SP1

Increase = 26.5909... - 19.5

Increase = 7.0909...

Increase ≈ ₹7.09

The dealer should increase his selling price by ₹7.09.
