    Question

    An amount of ₹840 is divided among three persons in the ratio of 16 : 6 : 18. The difference between the largest and the smallest shares (in ₹) in the distribution is:

    A.

    179

    B.

    169

    C.

    252

    D.

    168

    Correct option is C

    Given:

    Total amount = ₹840

    Ratio = 16 : 6 : 18

    Concept Used:

    Share of each person = Ratio partSum of ratio parts×Total amount\frac{\text{Ratio part}}{\text{Sum of ratio parts}} \times \text{Total amount}

    Solution:

    Sum of ratio parts = 16 + 6 + 18 = 40

    Shares:

    Largest share = 1840×840\frac{18}{40} \times 840 = 378

    Smallest share = 640×840\frac{6}{40} \times 840 = 126

    Difference = 378 - 126 = 252
