Question

An amount is divided between two friends in the ratio 2 : 5. If the second part is Rs 6 more than the first, then the initial amount is:

A.

Rs 13

B.

Rs 12

C.

Rs 23

D.

Rs 14

Correct option is D

Given:

Ratio 2:5, second part 6 more than the first.

Solution:

Let amount be 2x and 5x

The problem states that the second part is Rs 6 more than the first part:

So,

5x − 2x = 6

3x = 6

x = 2

Substituting x = 2

So the initial amount

5x + 2x = 7x = 7 × 2 = 14 Rs.
