Question

After selling 30% of the fruits, a fruit seller had 140 fruits left How many were there originally ?

A.

300

B.

200

C.

350

D.

288

Correct option is B

Given:
The fruit seller sold 30% of the fruits and has 140 fruits remaining.
Formula Used:
Remaining Quantity=Original Quantity×Remaining Percentage100\text{Remaining Quantity} = \text{Original Quantity} \times \frac{\text{Remaining Percentage}}{100}
Solution:
Let x be the original number of fruits.
30% of the fruits has been sold to remaining fruit = 100 – 30 = 70%
Since 70% of the fruits are left, we have:

140=x×70100140 = x \times \frac{70}{100}

x=140×10070=200x = \frac{140 \times 100}{70} = 200

Thus, The original number of fruits was 200.
