A thief is spotted by a policeman from a distance of 249 m. When the policeman starts the chase, the thief also starts running. Assuming the speed of the thief is 4 m/s and that of the policeman is 7 m/s, how far the thief would have run before he is overtaken by the policeman?

Relative Speed = 7-4 = 3 m/s

Time taken by police to catch the thief = $$\frac{249}{3}= 83 sec$$ 

Thief has to run 83 sec before catching, so distance covered at 4 m/s speed = 83$$\times 4 = 332 m$$​​
