Question

A soap company produces two kinds of soaps having weight 500 gm and 650 gm, respectively. If 200 soaps of the first kind and 300 soaps of second the kind were produced, then what is the weighted average weight (in gm) of the soaps?

A.

620

B.

590

C.

610

D.

600

Correct option is B

Given:

Weight of the first kind of soap = 500 gm

Weight of the second kind of soap = 650 gm

Number of soaps of the first kind = 200

Number of soaps of the second kind = 300

Formula Used:

Weighted Average = (w1×n1)+(w2×n2)n1+n2 \frac{(w_1 \times n_1) + (w_2 \times n_2)}{n_1 + n_2}

Where:

w1 and w2 are the weights of the soaps

n1 and n2 are the number of soaps

Solution:

Substitute the given values into the formula:

Weighted Average = (500×200)+(650×300)200+300\frac{(500 \times 200) + (650 \times 300)}{200 + 300}

=100000+195000200+300= \frac{100000+195000 }{200 + 300}

=295000500=590= \frac{295000}{500} = 590

Thus, the weighted average weight of the soaps is 590 gm.
