    Question

    A number is divided into two parts such that one part of the number is 10 more than the other part, and the ratio of the two parts is 4: 3. Find the initial number,

    A.

    40

    B.

    70

    C.

    80

    D.

    30

    Correct option is B

    Given:

    One part of the number is 10 more than the other part.

    The ratio of the two parts is 4:3

    Solution:

    Let the smaller part of the number be x

    Then the larger part is x +10

    Given ratio (4:3):

    x+10x=43\frac{x+10}{x} = \frac{4}{3}

    3 (x+10) = 4x

    3x +30 = 4x

    4x − 3x = 30

    x = 30

    Smaller part x =30

    Larger part x+10 = 30+10 = 40

    sum of the two parts

    30+40 =70

    The initial number is 70.
