Question

A is two years older than B, who is twice as old as C. If the total of their ages is 32 , then what is the age of B ?

A.

14 years

B.

12 years

C.

7 years

D.

8 years

Correct option is B

Given:

A is two years older than B, who is twice as old as C. If the total of their ages is 32

Solution:

Let be the age of C is = xx

then age of B is =2x2x and age of A is = 2x+22x+2

According to question:

A+ B+C = 32

x+2x+2x+2=32x+2x+2x+2=32

5x+2=325x+2=32

5x=322=305x= 32-2=30

x=305=6x= \frac{30}{5}=6

So the age of B is = 2x=2×6=122x= 2\times6=12

Thus the correct answer is (B)
