Question

A hollow cube is made of paper to have a volume of 512 cubic units. How much paper in square units will be required to make the cube?

A.

328

B.

348

C.

288

D.

384

Correct option is D

Given:
Volume of the hollow cube = 512 cubic units.
Formula Used:
Volume of a cube: Volume = side3\text{side}^3
Surface area of a cube (since it’s hollow, only the outer surface area is needed):
Surface Area = 6×(side2)6 \times (\text{side}^2)
Solution:
side3=512\text{side}^3 = 512
side=5123=8 units\text{side} = \sqrt[3]{512} = 8 \text{ units}
Now,
Surface Area=6×(side2)=6×(82)=6×64=384 square units\text{Surface Area} = 6 \times (\text{side}^2) = 6 \times (8^2) = 6 \times 64 = 384 \text{ square units}
Thus, The paper required to make the hollow cube is 384 square units.
