    Question

    A fruit seller buys oranges at the rate of 12 for ₹60. How many oranges should he sell for ₹60 so as to gain 20%?

    A.

    9

    B.

    10

    C.

    11

    D.

    8

    Correct option is B

    Given:

    Cost price (CP) of 12 oranges = ₹60

    Desired gain = 20%

    We are to find how many oranges should be sold for ₹60 to gain 20%.

    Solution:

    CP of 1 orange = 6012\frac{60}{12} = ₹5

    SP = ₹60

    Required CP for 20% gain = SP×100120\frac{SP \times 100}{120}

    =60×100120= \frac{60 \times 100}{120}

    = ₹50

    Number of oranges he should sell for ₹60 = 505\frac{₹50}{₹5} = 10
