About Unlawful Activities Prevention Act

    • UAPA was passed in 1967 to designate a group or an organization as unlawful.
  • Recent UAPA 2019 Amendment allows to designate an individual as a terrorist.
  • A law  aims at effective prevention of unlawful activities associations in India.
  • Unlawful activity refers to any action taken by an individual or association intended to disrupt the territorial integrity and sovereignty of India.
  • The Act empowers the central government to  declare  an activity as unlawful by adding it in the Official Gazette of India.
  • It has the death penalty and life imprisonment as the highest punishments.
  • Under UAPA, both Indian and foreign nationals can be charged. 
Veerangana Rani Durgavati  Context

Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone of Veerangana Rani Durgavati Memorial and Garden  in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

  • She was the ruling Queen of Gondwana from 1550 until 1564. 
  • She is chiefly remembered for defending her kingdom against the Mughal Empire.

  • A study revealed that 11.4% of India’s population or 10.13 crore people are living with diabetes.
  • 15.3% of the population or an additional 13.6 crore people are pre-diabetic. 
  • It also found that 28.6% of the population would be considered to be obese as per the BMI measure.

The private bus operators in Odisha were protesting against the government’s decision for not including the private bus  fleet in the LAccMI scheme.

  • The private bus owners association has requested the government to include a few of their buses in the fleet of the Laxmi bus scheme.

Location Accessible Multi-modal Initiative (LAccMI) scheme

    • It is aimed at establishing a sustainable, affordable, and safe transportation network 
    • This initiative seeks to create a seamless public transport network.
  • Every Gram Panchayat (GP) will connect to the main block at affordable prices.
  • The scheme will be started in six districts of Odisha including Koraput, Gajapati and Kalahandi in first phase.
