Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) has been conferred with the prestigious “Global Model for Millet Promotion” award at the International Nutri-Cereals Convention 5.0 (INCC)

• The Indian Institute of Millets Research anchored the INCC, which brought together administrative heads, sector experts, thought leaders, researchers, key beneficiaries and other stakeholders on a single platform 
• The theme of the convention is Mainstreaming Millets Now & Beyond 2023 which shows the importance of these ancient grains in today’s time.

• The Odisha Pavilion has won a gold medal for the best pavilion in the 42nd edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) at New Delhi.
•  The pavilion that drew huge attention for its traditional design and aesthetics, won the first prize for excellence in display.

• This year’s theme was ‘Unity by Trade’ and the state pavilion showcased its ancient maritime trade, agricultural products, handloom and artefacts. 
• A maritime boat known as ‘Boita’ was set up at the centre of the exhibition arena.

• Baliyatra, literally ‘voyage to Bali’ is one of the country’s largest open-air fares.
• Baliyatra is a week-long event which begins on Kartik Purnima (full moon night in the month of Kartik)
• It is organised every year to commemorate the 2,000-year-old maritime and cultural links between ancient Kalinga (today’s Odisha) and Bali and other South and Southeast Asian regions like Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Burma (Myanmar) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
• According to historians, popular items of trade between Kalinga and Southeast Asia included pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, silk, camphor, gold, and jewellery.

Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) termed the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to provide free foodgrain to the poor for five more years as a “poll gimmick”.

Under this welfare scheme, 5 kg of food grain per person per month is provided free of cost for all the beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) [Antodaya Anna Yojana & Priority Households] including those covered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

• Odisha Chief Minister approved two instream storage structures to be implemented at a cost of Rs 86.25 crore. 
• While Murlijhar project will be taken up in Kalahandi district, Damodarpur instream storage structure is proposed to be implemented in Mayurbhanj.

• The two projects will cater to the needs of Bhawanipatna block in Kalahandi and Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district.
• The projects will help increase groundwater level.
