Fleet electrification to tackle urban pollution Context

  • Millions of people have to face serious health hazards due to recurring increases in air pollution. 
  • As per two seminal studies pertaining to Delhi, the Urban Emission (2015) and the TERI study (2018), a significant contributor to urban smog is PM2.5 and PM10 pollution, which is caused by the transport and construction sector.

  • About 9 lakh new trucks are added to Indian roads every year to an already running fleet of 70 lakh trucks.

Odisha Millets Mission (OMM) has been conferred with the prestigious “Global Model for Millet Promotion” award at the International Nutri-Cereals Convention 5.0 (INCC)

State wins gold at IITF Context

  • The Odisha Pavilion has won a gold medal for the best pavilion in the 42nd edition of the India International Trade Fair (IITF) at New Delhi.
  •  The pavilion that drew huge attention for its traditional design and aesthetics, won the first prize for excellence in display.

  • Baliyatra, literally ‘voyage to Bali’ is one of the country’s largest open-air fares.
  • Baliyatra is a week-long event which begins on Kartik Purnima (full moon night in the month of Kartik)
  • It is organised every year to commemorate the 2,000-year-old maritime and cultural links between ancient Kalinga (today’s Odisha) and Bali and other South and Southeast Asian regions like Java, Sumatra, Borneo, Burma (Myanmar) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka).

Extension Of PMGKAY  Context

Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) termed the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to provide free foodgrain to the poor for five more years as a “poll gimmick”.

Under this welfare scheme, 5 kg of food grain per person per month is provided free of cost for all the beneficiaries covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) [Antodaya Anna Yojana & Priority Households] including those covered under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

Odisha CM Sanctions Rs 86.25 Cr For 2 Instream Storage Structures In Kalahandi & Mayurbhanj Context

  • Odisha Chief Minister approved two instream storage structures to be implemented at a cost of Rs 86.25 crore. 
  • While Murlijhar project will be taken up in Kalahandi district, Damodarpur instream storage structure is proposed to be implemented in Mayurbhanj.

  • The two projects will cater to the needs of Bhawanipatna block in Kalahandi and Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district.
  • The projects will help increase groundwater level.
