India’s industrial output growth slid to a three-month low of 5.8% in September from a 14-month high of 10.3% in August

About Index of Industrial Production(IIP)

• It is one of the Prime indicators of economic development for the measurement of trends in the behavior of Industrial Production over a period of time with reference to a chosen base year.
• It indicates the relative change of physical production in the field of industries during a specified year as compared to the previous year.
• It is computed and published by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) on a monthly basis.
• The base year is always given a value of 100.
• The current base year for the IIP series in India is 2011-12.

• ICI measures the collective and individual performance of production in selected eight core industries viz. Coal, Crude Oil, Natural Gas, Petroleum Refinery Products, Fertilizers, Steel, Cement and Electricity. 
• The objective of the ICI is to provide an advance indication of production performance of industries of ‘core’ nature before the release of  IIP by the Central Statistics Office. 
• These industries are likely to impact general economic activities as well as industrial activities.
• The Index is compiled and released by the Office of the Economic Adviser (OEA), Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

About Headline inflation

• Headline inflation is the raw inflation figure reported through the Consumer Price Index (CPI) that is released monthly by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 
• Headline inflation is not adjusted to remove highly volatile figures, including those that can shift regardless of economic conditions.

About Chilika Lake:

• It is a brackish water lake and a shallow lagoon with estuarine character spread across the districts of Puri, Khurda and Ganjam in the state of Odisha.
• It is connected to the Bay of Bengal by a 32 km long and 1.5 km wide channel that mostly runs parallel to the Bay separated by a narrow spit.
• It is located at the mouth of the Daya River, flowing into the Bay of Bengal, covering an area of over 1,100 km2.
• It is the largest wintering ground for migratory waterfowl found anywhere on the Indian sub-continent.
• It is one of the hotspot of biodiversity in the country, and some rare, vulnerable and endangered species listed in the IUCN Red List of threatened Animals inhabit the Lake area for atleast part of their life cycle.
• In 1981, Chilika Lake was designated the first Indian wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
• The Nalaban Island within the lake is notified as a Bird Sanctuary under Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The state has been selected for piloting the fund flow mechanism SNA-SPARSH 

Key point

It is to ensure real-time quick transfers through the integration of the Centre’s public fund management system, the state’s integrated fund management system and RBI’s e-Kuber platform.
