English Grammar Solution

S1. Ans. (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The proper arrangement is – BACD.

B – It is the opening sentence as it introduces the topic, ‘Beauty’ (that it doesn’t require external things such as make up, fake smile to look beautiful)

A – It defines what beauty means. The earlier sentence talks that external things didn’t contribute to your beauty and this sentence is exactly what beauty is. Hence, BA forms the pair.

C – It continues further by stating that the inner beauty doesn’t require makeup.

D – This sentence concludes by stating what constitutes beauty.

S2. Ans. (a)

Sol. The correct answer is option a.

The given sentence is of ‘Active voice’.

The sentence is said to be in active voice when `Subject’ is active & does something.

In the given sentence, the subject is ` Reema’& the subject performs some action

(cleaned the house)

Now we have to convert it into passive voice.

Passive voice – If the sentence is in passive form, the subject remains inactive. It does

nothing, but allows something to be done.

In the passive form, the object of the verb in Active voice becomes the subject of the

verb in the Passive voice. ‘By’ is introduced as now the subject receives the action by the

object.

The sentence thus formed is – The house will be cleaned by Reema every Sunday.

S3. Ans. (a)

Sol. The correct answer is option a.

Taboo- a social or religious custom prohibiting or restricting a particular practice or forbidding association with a particular person, place, or thing.

Option (a) portrays the same meaning as that of the given group of words & hence it is

the correct choice.

S4. Ans. (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The word that can be filled in the blank is `Continues’.

As per the context, the word `Continues’ fits in very well & hence, it is the correct choice.

S5. Ans. (a)

Sol. The correct answer is option a.

In fits and starts – It is an idiomatic expression which means, ‘In short, inconsistent, and irregular intervals, as of motion or progress.’

Option (a) portrays the same meaning as that of the given idiom & hence, it is the

correct choice.

S6. Ans. (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The correct spelling is, ‘Substantive’.

Remaining words are spelt correctly.

S7. Ans. (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option b.

The error lies in part b of the sentence.

Replace ‘His’ with ‘One’s to make the sentence grammatically correct.

In the given sentence, the subject is ‘One’ hence it will take possessive form as per the rule of subject-verb agreement.

The sentence thus formed is – One must prioritize one’s work effectively.

S8. Ans. (d)

Sol. The correct answer is option d.

The given sentence is grammatically & contextually correct and doesn’t require any improvement.

Headed for – It is a phrase which means, ‘To proceed or move toward someone or something, Destined for something’.

In the given sentence, it states – UNEP announced that the world is moving towards global warming even though a decrease in greenhouse has been observed because of pandemic.

S9. Ans. (b)

Sol. The correct answer is option a.

Replace, ‘But has several’ with ‘But have several’ to make the sentence grammatically correct.

In the given sentence, it talks about the history of India, full of traditions and customs (Subject – Plural). Hence, it takes ‘Have’ as a transitive verb used for talking about possession.

The sentence thus formed is – If you look back in India’s history, you will find it is full of traditions and customs which might look ordinary but have several health benefits attached to them.

S10. Ans. (c)

Sol. The correct answer is option c.

The proper arrangement is- BACD.

B – It is the opening sentence as it introduces the topic ‘Habit.’ (Defines the term ‘Habit’)
