    Question

Which one of the following is the correct statement for length of the long wall, as one moves from earthwork to brickwork in super structure in long wall and short wall method?

    A.

    Its value increases

    B.

    Its value remains the same

    C.

    Its value decreases

    D.

Its value depends upon length of wall

    Correct option is C

Long wall and short wall method:
In the long and short wall methods, the length of longwall generally reduces from earthwork to brickwork in superstructure whereas the length of the short wall rises.
Long wall-length = Length of centre line of longwall + Width of item
Short wall-length = Length of centre line of short wall - Width of item
As the width of the foundation wall is greater than the width of brickwork. It is concluded that short wall length is increased from foundation to brickwork.
