Question

Vipul invests a sum of Rs. 5400 and Vijay invests a sum of Rs. 9400 at the same rate of simple interest per annum. If, at the end of 5 years, Vijay gets Rs. 480 more interest than Vipul, then find the rate of interest per annum (in percentage).

A.

4.4

B.

3.4

C.

1.4

D.

2.4

Correct option is D

Given:

Vipul's principal = ₹5400

Vijay's principal = ₹9400

Time = 5 years (same for both)

Difference in interest = ₹480

We are to find the rate of interest per annum (R%).

Formula Used:

SI = P×R×T100\frac{P \times R \times T}{100}

Solution:

SI(Vijay) – SI(Vipul) = 480

9400×R×51005400×R×5100=480 (94005400)×R×5100=480 4000×R×5100=480 20000R100=480 200R=480 R=2.4%\frac{9400 \times R \times 5}{100} - \frac{5400 \times R \times 5}{100} = 480 \\\ \\ \frac{(9400 - 5400) \times R \times 5}{100} = 480 \\\ \\ \frac{4000 \times R \times 5}{100} = 480\\\ \\ \\\frac{20000R}{100} = 480\\\ \\200R = 480 \\ \ \\R = 2.4 \%
