    Question

    Two numbers X and Y are in the ratio 8 : 13. The LCM of these two numbers is 832. How much is the value of Y more than X?

    A.

    40

    B.

    45

    C.

    50

    D.

    30

    Correct option is A

    Given:

    Ratio of X : Y = 8 : 13

    LCM of X and Y = 832

    Formula Used:

    LCM = Product of numbersHCF\frac{\text{Product of numbers}} { HCF}

    Solution:

    Let X = 8k and Y = 13k.

    Then LCM of X and Y = LCM(8k, 13k) = (8 × 13 × k) = 104k

    Given that LCM = 832, equating:

    104k = 832

    k = 8

    X = 8k = 8 × 8 = 64

    Y = 13k = 13 × 8 = 104

    Difference = Y - X = 104 - 64 = 40
