    Question

    Two children differ in their age by 2 years. Six years later, the sum of their ages will be 46. How old are they now?

    A.

    21, 23

    B.

    20, 22

    C.

    24, 26

    D.

    18, 16

    Correct option is D

    Solution:

    Let the age of the older child be X.
    The age of the other child would be X - 2
    Sum of ages after 6 years,
    (X + 6 ) + (X - 2 + 6) = 46
    Solving equation
    2x + 10 = 46
    2x = 46 - 10
    2x = 36
    X = 18
    X - 2 = 18 - 2 = 16
    Hence, ‘18, 16’ is the correct answer.
