The total surface area of a solid in the shape of a hemisphere mounted on a cylinder both with equal radius and height of cylinder being twice its rad
Question

The total surface area of a solid in the shape of a hemisphere mounted on a cylinder both with equal radius and height of cylinder being twice its radius is equal to:

A.

8 Πr²

B.

4 Πr²

C.

7 Πr²

D.

(2 Πrh+2 Πr²

Correct option is C

Formula Used:
1. Curved Surface Area (CSA) of the cylinder = 2πrh
2. Curved Surface Area (CSA) of the hemisphere = 2πr²
3. Base area of the cylinder = πr²
Solution:
Let the radius of both the cylinder and the hemisphere be r.
The height of the cylinder is given as 2r.
Total Surface Area = CSA of cylinder + CSA of hemisphere + base area of the cylinder
= 2πr * 2r + 2πr² + πr²
= 4πr² + 2πr² + πr²
= 7πr²
