Question

The sum of the reciprocals of the roots of the equation abx² = (a² + b² + 2ab)(x − 1) is -

A.

2

B.

1/2

C.

2/3

D.

1

Correct option is D

Given:
Equation: abx² = (a² + b² + 2ab)(x − 1)
Solution:
Expand and simplify:
abx² = (a² + b² + 2ab)x − (a² + b² + 2ab)
=> abx² − (a² + b² + 2ab)x + (a² + b² + 2ab) = 0
Sum of roots (a2+b2+2ab)(ab)\frac{(a² + b² + 2ab) }{ (ab)}
Product of roots (a2+b2+2ab)(ab)\frac{(a² + b² + 2ab) }{ (ab)}
Sum of reciprocals of roots = (Sum of roots) / (Product of roots)
(a2+b2+2ab)(ab)(a2+b2+2ab)(ab)\frac {\frac{(a² + b² + 2ab) }{ (ab)}}{\frac{(a² + b² + 2ab) }{ (ab)}}
Correct answer is (d) 1
