    Question

    The ratio of the present ages of a father and son is 7 : 4. The product of their ages is 6300. The age of the son is:

    A.

    70 years

    B.

    50 years

    C.

    80 years

    D.

    60 years

    Correct option is D

    Given:

    Ratio of father's age to son's age: 7 : 4

    Product of their ages: 6300

    Solution:

    Let the father's age be 7x.

    Let the son's age be 4x.

    Product of their ages: (7x) ×\times (4x) = 6300

    28x² = 6300

    x² =630028 \frac{6300}{ 28}

    x² = 225

    x = 15

    Son's age = 4x

    Son's age = 4 ×\times 15

    Son's age = 60

    The age of the son is 60 years.
