Question

The ratio of the cost price to the marked price of a table is 3:4. The shopkeeper gives two equal successive discounts of 25% on the marked price and sells the table for Rs.2,250. Find the loss during this transaction.

A.

Rs.1,000

B.

Rs.750

C.

Rs.500

D.

Rs.250

Correct option is B

Given:

Cost Price (CP) : Marked Price (MP) = 3 : 4

Two successive discounts = 25% each

Selling Price (SP) = ₹2,250

Solution:

Let CP : MP = 3x : 4x

SP = 4x×75100×751004x \times \frac{75}{100} \times \frac{75}{100}

2250 = 9x4\frac{9x}4

x = Rs. 1000

Loss = CP – SP = 3000 – 2250 = Rs. 750
