Question

The length of a rectangle is 1 cm more than its width. Its perimeter is 14 cm. The area of the rectangle is:

A.

28 cm2\text{cm}^2

B.

24 cm2\text{cm}^2

C.

16 cm2\text{cm}^2

D.

12 cm2\text{cm}^2

Correct option is D

Given:
Perimeter of the rectangle = 14 cm
Length = Width + 1 cm
Formula Used:
Perimeter of rectangle = 2(Length + Width)
Area of rectangle = Length × Width
Solution:
Let the width of the rectangle be x cm.
Then, the length of the rectangle will be x + 1 cm.
Perimeter = 14 cm.
2(Length + Width) = 14
2(x + 1 + x) = 14
2(2x + 1) = 14
4x + 2 = 14
4x = 12
x = 3 cm (Width of the rectangle)
Length = x + 1 = 3 + 1 = 4 cm
Now,  Area of the rectangle = Length × Width = 4 × 3 = 12 cm².
Therefore, the area of the rectangle is 12 cm².
