Question

The LCM of two numbers is 3 times their HCF. One of the numbers is 8 and the sum of the HCF and LCM is 32. What is the other number?

A.

22

B.

24

C.

26

D.

28

Correct option is B

Given:
LCM of two numbers = 3 × HCF
One number = 8
Sum of the HCF and LCM = 32
Formula Used:
LCM = 3 × HCF
HCF + LCM = 32
Product of two numbers = HCF × LCM
Solution:
Let the HCF be x.
Then, LCM = 3x
According to the question:
x + 3x = 32
4x = 32
x = 8
So, HCF = 8 and LCM = 24
Product of the two numbers = 8 × 24 = 192
One number is 8.
Other number = 192 ÷ 8 = 24
Hence, the other number is 24.
