Correct option is A
The Constitution (71st Amendment) Act, 1992, and the 92nd Amendment Act, 2003, played significant roles in the recognition of languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
The 71st Amendment Act, 1992, added three languages to the Eighth Schedule:
- Konkani: A language spoken primarily in the state of Goa and in parts of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
- Manipuri: The official language of the state of Manipur, spoken by the Meitei community.
- Nepali: Widely spoken in the state of Sikkim, parts of West Bengal (particularly in Darjeeling), and by the Nepali diaspora across India.
With the addition of these three languages, the total number of languages in the Eighth Schedule increased from 15 to 18.
The Constitution (92nd Amendment) Act, 2003 further expanded the Eighth Schedule by recognizing additional languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of India. It added Maithili along with three other languages Bodo, Dogri, and Santhali bringing the total number of recognized languages in the Eighth Schedule to 22.
