Question

The average weight of 6 boxes is 14 kg and the weight of the first box is one-fifth of the remaining boxes. What will be the weight of the first box?

A.

16 kg

B.

12 kg

C.

14 kg

D.

10 kg

Correct option is C

Given:

Average weight of 6 boxes = 14kg

Weight of first box = one-fifth of remaining boxes

Formula Used:

Average =Sum of observationsNumber of observations \frac{Sum\ of \ observations}{Number\ of \ observations}

Solution:

Total weight of all boxes = 14 ×\times 6 = 84

Let the weight of first box be x

Then weight of remaining boxes = 5x

Total weight = x+ 5x = 6x

6x = 84

x = 14kgs
