Question

The ages of Misha and Kamal are in the ratio of 4 : 3 respectively. After 9 years the ratio of their ages will be 7 : 6. What is the difference in their present ages?

A.

2

B.

13

C.

12

D.

3

Correct option is D

Given:

Present age ratio of Misha and Kamal = 4 : 3

After 9 years, age ratio = 7 : 6

Solution:

Let present ages be 4x and 3x.

Then after 9 years:

4x+93x+9=76\frac{4x + 9}{3x + 9} = \frac{7}{6}

6(4x + 9) = 7(3x + 9)

24x + 54 = 21x + 63

3x = 9

x = 3

Misha’s age = 4x = 12 years

Kamal’s age = 3x = 9 years

Difference = 12 - 9 = 3 years

Alternate Solution:

ratio difference is always equal.

so , 7 - 4 = 3

3 unit = 9

1 unit = 3

Difference b/w age of Mishra and Kunal

= 4 - 3 = 1 unit

1 unit = 3 years
