Question

Speed of a boat in still water is 13 km/h. Speed of water current is 4 km/h. In what time can the boat cover 68 km upstream?

A.

8 hours

B.

7 hours 33 minutes

C.

4 hours

D.

7 hours

Correct option is B

Given:
Speed of boat in still water = 13 km/h
Speed of stream = 4 km/h

Formula Used:

Upstream speed = (Speed of the boat) - (Speed of the stream)

Time = Distance/Speed
Solution:
Speed of boat in upstream = (13 – 4 ) = 9 km/h
Time taken by boat to cover 68 km upstream = 68/9 = 7 hours + 5/9 hour

=7 hours+59×60 minutes=7 hours 33.33 minutes= 7 \text{ hours} + \frac{5}{9} \times 60 \text{ minutes} \\= 7 \text{ hours} \, 33.33 \text{ minutes}
