Question

Sobhan and Mohan start from the school with a speed of 3.5 km/hr and 4 km/hr. What time will they take to be 1.5 km apart if they start in the same direction?

A.

90 min

B.

3 hours

C.

1 hour

D.

12 min

Correct option is B

Given:

Sohan's speed = 3.5 km/h

Mohan's speed = 4 km/h

Distance = 1.5 km

Formula used:

Time = DistanceSpeed\frac{Distance}{Speed}

Solution:

When two objects travel in the same direction, the relative speed is the difference between their speeds :

Time = 1.5(43.5)\frac{1.5}{(4 - 3.5)}

=> 1.50.5\frac{1.5}{0.5}

=> 3 hours

Therefore, the time it will take for Sobhan and Mohan to be 1.5 km apart is 3 hours.
